Rioja Alavesa, the origin

With 18 hectares of our own vineyards, over two locations in Rioja Alavesa, in Baños de Ebro and Laguardia, Bodega Gil Berzal is one of the smallest and best-kept plots in the area.

One of our principles is to only use native vine varieties, so as to preserve the identity and character of our land.

Green viticulture that goes a step further. The minimum certification standards for green agriculture are poor compared with our criteria. To us, being sustainable is a way of life. Every day we learn new things and apply them to our work, such as biodynamic and renewable methods.

The soil of our vineyards contains rocky land, chalk, sand and clay, giving our wines a unique character, fineness in the tannins and a distinctive and intense fruit. The soil’s dryness and unequalled condition mean that the only species capable of making the most of its properties is the vine. Located south of the Sierra de Cantabria among hills and mountains, at an altitude of 600 to 700 metres, plus small terrace plots, our vineyards have a unique geography with a higher temperature than the average at this latitude.
